Patan District Consumer Dispute Redressal l Forum has directed the Insurance company Future Generali Insurance Co. Ltd to pay the complainants Rasik Solanki, Punamchand Solanki and Nilesh Prajapati full amount of insurance Rs. 1 lakh each, along with 8% interest and Rs,3000 for mental harassment. The company had initially rejected the claims of the three persons above aged 41, 26 and 27 respectively citing that they had mild symptoms of corona and they could have been treated at home.
The three claimants in the case, all belonging to Patan in North Gujarat had taken the Corona Rakshak Policy advertised by the company as a special policy for the Covid infection. They were hospitalised in October 2020 for four days and were discharged later on with instructions to remain isolated at home for few more days.
The commission termed the denial to honour the claim by the company ‘sad’ saying that during the peak of the wave general public not only was not getting proper facilities and hospitals also overcharged. The company had refused to reimburse the amount.
The insurance company, Future Generali had represented that all three were hospitalised with very mid symptoms and Government guidelines said that for mild symptoms oral treatment is required and no hospitalisation is needed. However, the commission decided to not buy the argument.
