At an event in Mumbai on Wednesday, December 1, actor and activist Swara Bhaskar confronted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, drawing her attention to stand-up comics and members of the film industries, who she said were facing persecution from the government.
Bhaskar asked members of the audience to stand up, including Munawar faruqui and Agrima Joshua, and informed Banerjee that common citizens were being caught between the mob, which is accountable to none, and the state which is “distributing UAPA and sedition charges like prasad of a God that we don’t want to pray to.”
In which case, CM Mamata Banerjee should keep the opposition space free of internal stresses and fissures.
