Covid Cases In Ahmedabad Rise By 40% In Last 24 Hours

| Updated: November 17, 2021 22:11

Ahmedabad recorded 28 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours — a rise of 40% from the day before. On November 16, the city had recorded 20 cases.

The city has identified four micro-containment zones in the past one week . On November 11, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had identified one micro-containment zone in a residential society in South Zone. The colony has a population of 85.

The corporation, a day after, identified another micro-containment area in West Zone, where around 76 people have been quarantined.

In the following four days, two more containment zones were identified and the residents of those areas were quarantined.

Post festivities, Ahmedabad has been seeing a surge in the Covid cases. Bhavin Solanki, Medical Officer of Health, AMC, said, “We have increased testing and that is why the spike can be seen.”

Solanki said the rise in cases were recorded following Navratri and Diwali in the city. “We are conducting contact-tracing at a war-footing. The cases so far are mild in nature and no hospitalisation so far has been required,” Solanki said.

On November 14 and 15, the city recorded 11 and 15 cases respectively.

Till date, Ahmedabad has recorded a total of 2,29,148 cases and 3,411. The numbers, experts say, are likely to be six times higher than what is being put out in the public domain by the government and the municipality.
