Tech-savvy youngsters today tend to spend hours and hours scrolling through instagram and DMing their day out losing track of time which then erodes their mental health.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri had announced previously that it was looking into “Take a Break” reminders – a feature that would let users set a reminder for themselves to take a break from using the app after either 10,20,30 minutes depending on their preferences.
The company was grilled in a Senate hearing over teen mental health back in September. Meta’s (previously known as Facebook) Global Head of Security Antigone Davis said that this feature is to encourage users to stop looking at the app after they had been browsing for too long and that it is one of the many ways the company was working to improve the experiences of young people.
It is still unclear if users will actually use the feature as the latest android and iOS phones already come with apps that allow users to set limits on the time spent on apps.
Mosseri says that the feature will be launched this week as a test on a limited amount of users however the company expects to make this feature publicly available in the coming months.
