Diwali and sweets go hand-in-hand. Families don’t only mark the festival by making a variety of traditional sweets, they also gift each other delicacies of all kinds.
Therefore, Diwali is also when sweet shop owners are at their busiest. The Vibes team surveyed the most prominent sweet shops in Ahemdabad to find out what sweets were most in-demand during this festive period, and how sales compared to last year.
Jayhind Sweets
The brand is an extremely famous one in the city. According to Mahashankar Rajpur, manager, Stadium Road, “Our kaju katli and premium kaju sweets are most in-demand; other than that mohanthal and combo boxes of dry fruits have sold the most.” The brand did better business in comparison to last year.
Kandoi Bhogilal Mulchand
One of the oldest confectioners in the state, the brand is known for its premium quality of mithai. “We sold mohanthal, halwasan and Mysore Pak in the most quantities; it has been loved by customers over the years. Apart from that, kaju katri and dry fruits sell well,” explained an official at Kandoi sweets.
Gwalia Sweets
“At each branch, we sold around 300 to 400 kilograms of kanpuria laddoo (motichoor ke laddoo) and around 500 kilograms of mawa mix. Other than that, we sold a lot of kaju katli and mohanthal,” said manager Ajay Yadav. The brand saw much better sales than last year.
Bikanerwala
All the Ahmedabad city outlets of this brand sold a fairly good amount of sweets “Although all our sweets have done great business this season, the Diwali staple kaju katli was sold the most,” said an official at the Nehru Nagar branch.
