“Another Round?” Law Student Arrested After Fatal Drunk Driving Incident In Vadodara

| Updated: March 14, 2025 19:17

A 20-year-old law student has been arrested after allegedly ramming his car into multiple two-wheelers in Vadodara, Gujarat, resulting in the death of a woman and serious injuries to four others. The accident occurred in the early hours of Friday near Muktanand crossroads in the city’s Karelibaug area.

The accused, identified as Rakshit Chaurasia, a resident of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the crash. A widely circulated video from the crash site shows Chaurasia emerging from the heavily damaged car and repeatedly shouting, “Another round,” while bystanders attempted to restrain him.

He was also heard chanting “Om Namah Shivay” as chaos unfolded around him.

According to police reports, Chaurasia was driving at a speed of 120 km/h when he lost control and crashed into two scooters, dragging their riders along before the vehicle came to a halt.

Among the victims was Hemali Patel, who had gone out with her minor daughter to purchase Holi colours. Patel succumbed to her injuries on the spot, while her daughter and three other victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The police arrested Chaurasia at the scene, while his co-passenger, Mit Chauhan, fled in the opposite direction, claiming he was not responsible for the crash as he was not behind the wheel.

Chauhan, the owner of the car, was later apprehended and underwent a medical examination to determine whether he was also under the influence of alcohol. Both individuals are students at private universities in Vadodara.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Panna Momaya confirmed that an investigation is underway. “The car was speeding and rammed several people in the Karelibag area. In the accident, one woman was killed, and four others are currently undergoing treatment. We will lodge an FIR and are analysing CCTV footage in this drink-and-drive case,” she stated.

A controversial interview with Chaurasia has since emerged, where he appears to be making a case for himself despite being in police custody.

The incident has sparked discussions online, with many comparing it to a similar case involving a teenage driver in Pune last year.
