Chhaava Crosses Rs 200 Cr Worldwide, Becomes Highest-Grossing Bollywood Film of 2025

| Updated: February 19, 2025 15:52

The historical drama Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, continues its strong performance at the box office, surpassing the Rs 200-crore mark globally within its first five days. Despite being a weekday, the film showed no signs of slowing down, earning over Rs 25 crore in India on Tuesday.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Chhaava has accumulated Rs 165.75 crore net (Rs 198.85 crore gross) in India since its release.

The film’s overseas earnings stand at Rs 30 crore, bringing its total worldwide collection to Rs 228.85 crore. This makes Chhaava the first Bollywood film of 2025 to cross the Rs 200-crore milestone, surpassing Sky Force, which had grossed Rs 168 crore.

The film has witnessed an exceptional response in Maharashtra, where its subject matter has resonated strongly with audiences.

As a biopic of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Chhaava has seen theatres in the state selling out days in advance. Major cities such as Mumbai and Pune have recorded over 90% occupancy rates, and even on Tuesday, Pune reported a 70% occupancy level despite being a working day.

Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava features Vicky Kaushal in the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Akshaye Khanna as Emperor Aurangzeb.

The ensemble cast includes Rashmika Mandanna, Vineet Kumar Singh, Ashutosh Rana, Neil Bhoopalam, and Diana Penty. The film was released in cinemas on February 14 and has received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics, while audiences have responded with enthusiasm.
