Five individuals have been arrested in connection with a violent altercation near Palladium Mall on SG Highway, following the circulation of a viral video. The accused were identified as Mihir Desai from Chamanpura, Prince Jangid from Nirnaynagar, Jigar Desai from Nava Naroda, Pavan Thakor from Chamanpura, and Kailash Darji, also from Chamanpura, according to DCP Zone-1 Balram Meena.
The incident, reported on Friday at around 1 am, saw a group of armed individuals wielding swords and sticks attacking victims near Zydus Crossroads, creating public panic amid heavy traffic.
The altercation stemmed from a business dispute between 26-year-old Vijay Bharwad, a furniture rental business owner from Ranip, and the accused, specifically Prince Jangid and Mihir Desai.
Bharwad had previously filed an FIR on January 10 at Sarkhej Police Station, alleging that Jangid and Desai had been threatening him and his associates over a disagreement regarding construction material rentals.
The FIR also detailed an earlier altercation at a tea stall on Sindhu Bhavan Road, where Jangid had filed a counter-complaint against Bharwad and his friend, leading to Bharwad’s arrest.
Vastrapur Police have registered a case of rioting against the accused and are working to apprehend the remaining suspects. Inspector LL Chavda described the incident as the result of internal conflicts between the groups.
