Gujarat: 8-Year-Old Student Collapses, Dies in Ahmedabad School

| Updated: January 10, 2025 16:24

In a tragic incident, an eight-year-old student of a private school in Ahmedabad died on Friday morning. She is reported to have complained of chest pain. She was rushed to Zydus Hospital, where she was placed on a ventilator but succumbed shortly after.

A student of Zebar School, the third standard student collapsed in the corridor of the school.

The doctors said that this was a sudden death. More details will be revealed only after the postmortem.

The incident occurred at around 8 am when Gargi Tushar Ranpara, complained of chest pain while climbing the stairs. She sat on a chair in the school lobby but collapsed moments later.

In CCTV footage, it is evident that the staff was engaged in conversation at the time the girl collapsed and only noticed her condition a few seconds later.

School staff rushed her to Zydus Hospital after initially attempting to call an ambulance, which was delayed. Despite efforts to revive her, the hospital declared her dead upon arrival.

School principal Sharmistha Sinha confirmed the sequence of events, stating, “The girl experienced chest pain and breathing difficulty. We immediately called for medical assistance and transported her to Zydus Hospital in a staff vehicle when the ambulance was delayed. Unfortunately, despite treatment, she passed away.”

Police investigations have revealed that Gargi lived in Ahmedabad with her grandparents, as her parents were currently in Mumbai. School records indicate no prior medical conditions or history of illness at the time of her admission.

Sector-1 JCP Neeraj Badgujar stated that police teams, including the Crime Branch and Bodakdev Police, have initiated an investigation. CCTV footage from the school is being reviewed, and a dog squad was deployed to examine the premises. “We have registered a case of accidental death and are awaiting the postmortem report from Asarwa Civil Hospital to determine the exact cause,” Badgujar said.

Further investigations are underway.
