MGSAMT Issues Rs 150.75 Crore Tender for Gandhi Ashram Development

| Updated: January 10, 2025 12:12

The Mahatma Gandhi Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust (MGSAMT) has issued a tender worth Rs 150.75 crore, marking a significant milestone in the Gandhi Ashram Memorial & Precinct Development Project. This phase is expected to give shape to the redeveloped ashram precinct, according to senior officials overseeing the initiative.

The MGSAMT is a trust established by the Gujarat government to implement the Rs 1,200 crore project which is a collaborative effort of the state government and the Centre.

The latest issued tender focuses on external infrastructure development, encompassing civil, mechanical, electrical, and fire-fighting works, among others. It also includes the operation and maintenance of the external infrastructure for five years post-completion. The tender was released on January 4 and is set to close on January 27.

Sources involved in the project revealed that the scope of work includes constructing pathways across the 55-acre campus, a stormwater drainage system, electrification, lighting, CCTV surveillance, benches, tree pits, plug points, integrated light poles, stone bollards, building uplighters, dustbins and drinking water kiosks.

Approximately 3 km of pipes will be installed for stormwater disposal, and pathways totalling 3.5 km in length will be developed using paver blocks in varying widths of 3 metres, 6 metres and 9 metres.

A project official emphasised the importance of this phase, stating that the works under the latest tender will connect all the buildings within the campus. “Currently, the buildings are scattered and standalone. Once this phase is complete, the redeveloped ashram will emerge as a synchronised campus with pathways seamlessly joining all points,” the official noted.

In the broader redevelopment plan, several tenders have already been issued for tasks such as restoring old buildings and constructing a boundary wall for the campus.

Additionally, the stretch of Ashram Road that previously bisected the Gandhi Ashram has been closed to vehicular traffic and rerouted to facilitate the redevelopment.
