Vadodara: Shaktisinh Gohil Meets 10-Year-Old Rape Survivor, Calls It ‘Extremely Inhumane’

| Updated: December 22, 2024 17:22

In the wake of the sexual assault case involving a 10-year-old girl in Gujarat’s Bharuch district, opposition leaders have been visiting the pediatric department at Sayajirao General Hospital in Vadodara to inquire about the victim’s condition and raising questions about the safety of women in the state.

Gujarat Congress President and Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil also visited the hospital to gather information about the girl’s situation.

Speaking to the media, Gohil condemned the crime as “extremely inhumane”, stating that “even a demon would not commit such an act”.

He called the assault on the young girl a “shameful incident” and emphasised that such crimes must be condemned, regardless of where they occur.

Reportedly, the girl is currently on a ventilator and said to be in critical condition. A team consisting of 10 specialist doctors is currently providing treatment.

Gohil also extended his gratitude to the party leader from Jharkhand, who had personally travelled to provide financial assistance to the victim’s family. He urged the state government to support the family during this tragic time and called for an end to political divisions, stating, “Politics should be set aside in such times of crisis.”

“169 Girls Became Victims in 2023”

Gohil revealed that 169 girls had fallen victim to similar incidents in Gujarat in the past year. He drew comparisons to the 2012 Nirbhaya case in Delhi, calling it equally condemnable.

Gohil criticised the BJP, accusing the party of politicising such tragedies for electoral gain. “Under the Congress government, officers were honest and did not demand bribes for transfers or promotions. But under the BJP government, law and order has deteriorated and the party has begun collaborating with criminals,” he said.

He questioned whether the BJP took responsibility for such incidents and reminded the public of the contributions made by workers from outside Gujarat, stating that the government had a duty to ensure their welfare.
