The Central government has postponed introducing ‘one nation one election’ bills in the Lok Sabha until after financial business is finished.
The two bills, the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill and the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, were earlier scheduled to be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
Government sources stated that when the House approves the first batch of supplementary demands for grants scheduled for Monday, the bill may be introduced later this week.
The two bills on Monday’s agenda are not included in the Lok Sabha secretariat’s revised list of business.
However, with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha’s approval, the government may always use the “Supplementary List of Business” to introduce bills into Parliament at the last minute.
In accordance with the process, members were given copies of the two bills pertaining to the simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies last week.
December 20 is the last day of Parliament’s winter session.
