In a development in the ongoing investigation into the fraud case related to the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) at Khyati Multispeciality Hospital in Ahmedabad, the Ahmedabad Police’s Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) announced on Saturday that it has successfully apprehended the absconding hospital director, Rajshree Pradeep Kothari.
The death of two PM-JAY beneficiaries after they had angioplasty at the hospital allegedly without informed permission has led to the booking of nine accused in three FIRs for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, among other counts.
Thirty-one days after filing three FIRs in the case, one on behalf of the state government and two by the families of deceased patients Mahesh Girdhar Barot (52) and Nagar Moti Senma (75), the Crime Branch, which had already detained seven of the nine accused, was able to capture Kothari.
One of the directors of the company that operates Khyati Multispeciality Hospital, bariatric surgeon Dr Sanjay Mulji Patolia, was arrested earlier this month in connection with the investigation.
On Thursday, Dr Patolia was sent to judicial custody following the conclusion of the seven-day police remand.
