ISKCON Ahmedabad Holds Peaceful Protests Against Persecution of Bangladesh Hindu Minority

| Updated: December 2, 2024 18:58

On December 1, monks and devotees from ISKCON Bhadaj held a peaceful protest to condemn the alleged persecution of the Hindu minority in Bangladesh. The arrest of ISKCON monk Chinmoy Krishna Das by Bangladeshi authorities has triggered widespread criticism. Through silent demonstrations, the protesters aim to promote peace, compassion and respect for all beliefs, while calling for the freedom of Sanatani devotees to practise their religion without fear.

On Monday, Chinmoy Krishna Das was apprehended at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while en route to Chittagong. His detention comes amidst growing concerns over the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh, with the monk known for his active role in peaceful protests advocating for Hindu rights.

The ISKCON community in Ahmedabad joins a wave of demonstrations across India, expected to continue through mid-December, to denounce the violence and discrimination faced by Hindus in Bangladesh. Activists cite reports of attacks, killings, looting, arson and other inhumane acts perpetrated by Islamic extremists. Protesters accuse the Bangladeshi government and its agencies of failing to intervene and instead passively observing these atrocities.

A statement from the protesters claims that a “new wave of injustice and oppression” is driving Hindus in Bangladesh to adopt peaceful, democratic methods to safeguard their rights and heritage.

ISKCON has called for protests at its centres across the globe. “In over 150 countries and countless cities and towns, millions of ISKCON devotees worldwide will come together Sunday, 1st December, to pray and chant for the safety and security of Bangladeshi minorities,” Mr. Das posted on social media.
