A 34-year-old ward-level BJP leader was found dead at her residence in Bhimrad village, under Althan police station jurisdiction, on Sunday afternoon. Dipika Patel, who was the BJP Mahila Morcha leader of ward number 30, is suspected to have died by suicide. She reportedly made a distress call to BJP councillor Chirag Solanki moments before hanging herself. Her son was in another room of the house during the incident.
Patel’s relatives have alleged foul play, claiming her death was a murder. However, the police have registered a case of accidental death, denying the allegations.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-4), Vijaysingh Gurjar, stated: “Primarily, doctors have suggested it was a death due to hanging. We are awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.” Gurjar added that Patel had locked herself in a room before the incident.
The police have launched an investigation but emphasised that the initial evidence points to suicide.
Around 2 pm on Sunday, Patel reportedly called Solanki, the councillor of her ward, expressing that she was under stress and feeling disturbed. Solanki attempted to call her back, but there was no response. Concerned, he contacted Patel’s son, who was at home. The son tried to open the door of the locked room but was unable to do so. Solanki then rushed to the house and, with the son’s help, broke open the door, discovering Patel hanging.
Solanki immediately brought Patel down and contacted a doctor and a policeman he knew. Dr Akash Patel arrived at the house shortly after.
Following the incident, one of Patel’s relatives alleged murder, questioning why Solanki removed Patel from her hanging position and why the police emergency number ‘100’ was not dialled.
In response, a police officer clarified: “Solanki contacted a policeman he knew for assistance. This is not a murder, as the victim’s son was present in the house when Solanki arrived, and they broke open the door together.”
Patel is survived by her husband and three children. Her husband was reportedly at the farm for work when the incident occurred.
