Gujarat Titans has secured England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler for an impressive Rs 15.75 crore at the IPL 2025 auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Rajasthan Royals entered the bidding early in an attempt to acquire Buttler at a lower price, but Gujarat Titans remained steadfast in their pursuit of the England white-ball captain.
Following an ultimatum by the Lucknow Super Giants, GT made the winning bid, easily defeating the others to obtain the Englishman.
Several teams were interested in Buttler as one of their top aims, mostly because of his remarkable hitting ability and inclination for leadership.
Jos Buttler has been one of the top short-format hitters, especially on the global stage, since his debut in 2011. While leading England from the front as their white-ball captain, Buttler has scored 3,389 runs in 129 games, including a personal best score of 101 not out in T20Is.
Along with Harry Brook, Phil Salt, Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone, Buttler is one of 38 England-qualified players in the auction pool.
The Englishman, a seasoned IPL veteran, played 11 games in the 2024 season, averaging 39.89 and recording two hundreds, including a season-best undefeated 107. He also anchored the Rajasthan Royals’ top order. However, it was shocking when the Royals decided not to retain him before the massive auction.
Buttler had clearly earned a fortune for himself in the IPL over the years, scoring 3,582 runs in 107 games with a blazing strike rate of 147.53 and a maximum score of 124. Clubs were salivating at the prospect of adding him to their squad.
