As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led ‘Mahayuti’ alliance is leading on 220 seats in Maharashtra, the battle for chief minister has now begun. Party leaders from within the alliance are rooting for their heads to be the next CM.
Sunetra, the wife of Ajit Pawar, expressed her desire for him to become the chief minister.
Meanwhile, BJP legislator Pravin Darekar called for Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to be appointed as the next chief minister, as early vote count trends in the assembly elections indicate a likely victory for the ‘Mahayuti’ alliance.
Darekar emphasised that within the alliance, the party winning the most seats should have the right to the chief minister’s post.
Taking a hit at Shiv Sena-UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray, Shrikant Shinde, son of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has remarked that he has been shown his place by the people with the mandate.
“Party Could Have Done Better”
Commenting on the election results, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate admitted that the party’s performance predictions were disappointing and acknowledged that the party could have done better.
“Maharashtra elections are opposite to our expectations. There is no doubt that we could have done better. At the same time, however, we are happy that we have performed well in Jharkhand and we are going to repeat our government there. The elections in Maharashtra have been disappointing. Our campaigns were good but maybe the public expects a little more from us and we will deliver on their expectations,” she told a section of the media.
