The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a Gujarat resident from Akola in Maharashtra on Sunday in connection with the former minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique murder case, bringing the total number of arrests in the high-profile incident to 25.
Salmanbhai Iqbalbhai Vohra, a resident of Petlad in Gujarat’s Anand district, was apprehended from Balapur in Akola, which is around 565 kilometres away from the city, with the assistance of the local police.
Siddique was shot dead on October 12 in the Nirmal Nagar area of Bandra East, close to the office of his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique.
An official claimed that “Vohra had opened a bank account in May this year and had provided financial support to Nareshkumar Singh, brother of arrested accused Gurmail Singh, Rupesh Mohol and Harishkumar. He has also helped others connected to the crime.”
Following the murder, Gurmail Singh, a native of Haryana and Dharmaraj Kashyap, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, were arrested on the spot.
The arrest of alleged main shooter Shivkumar Gautam from Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, lately gave the authorities a significant breakthrough in the investigation.
According to the police, Gautam, who had been evading capture since October 12, was arrested during his attempt to escape to Nepal.
