The Ahmedabad police are turning to an age-old method of sketching in an attempt to identify the suspect in the murder of a 23-year-old student. This comes after the local police were unable to find clear CCTV footage in the Bopal area of ‘smart city’.
The victim, Priyanshu Jain, was stabbed to death allegedly by an unidentified driver of a car after an argument over rash driving on Sunday. He was a second-year MBA student at Mudra Institute of Communications (MICA).
The incident occurred around 11.30 pm when two students were riding a motorcycle back to their institute’s hostel after buying a cake at a bakery shop.
On their way back, they engaged in a heated argument with the driver of a speeding four-wheeler at the crossroads in Bopal area over his reckless driving. The driver then followed the students for approximately 200 metres before taking out a knife from his vehicle and stabbing one of them.
Inspector B T Gohil of Bopal police told a section of media, “We searched for CCTV footage in the area but were unable to find any that captured the suspect or the vehicle. Multiple teams, including officers from Bopal police station, the local crime branch (LCB) and the special operations group (SOG), have been organised to apprehend the suspect.”
According to the reports, Prithviraj Mahapatra, the friend and complainant in the murder case, could not see the vehicle’s number plate. After 24 hours passed with no substantial leads, the police sought the assistance of a sketch artist and Mahapatra provided a description of the suspect’s features.
Police officials stated they are now relying on human intelligence to catch the suspect.
