As trends in the US election indicate a decisive victory for the Republicans, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Donald Trump on his anticipated return to the White House. In a message on X (formerly Twitter), Modi referred to Trump as “my friend” and wrote, “Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory.”
Modi added, “As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.”
Donald Trump is on the cusp of a sweeping victory in what was widely predicted to be a closely contested race. The Republicans have achieved a remarkable turnaround, securing wins in all seven battleground states, a striking contrast to the Democrats’ 6-1 win in those states in 2020.
Addressing his supporters as projections indicated his triumph, Trump described the win as a “magnificent victory for the American people.” Reflecting on an assassination attempt he survived in July, he said, “God spared my life for a reason.”
Trump hailed the Republican campaign as the “greatest political movement of all time,” pledging, “We are going to help our country heal, fix our borders. We made history for a reason tonight. We have achieved the most incredible political win. I want to thank the American people. I will fight for you and your family with every breath in my body.”
The Republicans appear poised to secure a significant electoral vote count of 315. Adding to the scale of their victory, the party has also gained control of the Senate and leads in the race for the House of Representatives.
In his victory speech, Trump expressed gratitude to his supporters, his running mate JD Vance, his wife Melania Trump, and his children, acknowledging the challenging nature of the campaign. He also thanked Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a vocal supporter, for his backing throughout the election season.
