US Election 2024: Trump Leads with 247 Electoral Votes as Harris Fights Back with 214

| Updated: November 6, 2024 14:04

The 2024 US presidential election remains a nail-biter, with Republican candidate Donald Trump currently leading with 247 electoral votes and Kamala Harris following closely with 214. The two candidates remain neck and neck in a fiercely contested race.

Trump has claimed victories in two of the crucial seven swing states, which are expected to play a decisive role in the final outcome.

Elon Musk Welcomes “Mandate for Change”

Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest man and a vocal Trump supporter, took to X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate Trump’s lead, writing, “The people of America gave Donald Trump a crystal clear mandate for change tonight.” Musk, who endorsed Trump in July, has invested millions to support the Republican candidate, reportedly contributing at least $118 million to Trump’s political action committee.

The tech mogul plans to spend election night alongside the former president as results continue to roll in.

Harris Secures New York’s Electoral Votes

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris has secured a significant win in New York, gaining its 28 electoral votes. New York, a Democratic stronghold since it backed Ronald Reagan in 1984, remains a key state for the Democrats. Despite Trump’s ties to New York as his home state, he has struggled to garner support there in each of his three presidential campaigns.

New York remains the fourth-largest state by electoral vote count, following California, Texas, and Florida, although its electoral count has reduced by one since the previous election due to demographic shifts. As the vote tally continues, both candidates hold their breath, with swing states expected to shape the ultimate outcome.

This is a developing story.
