Gujarat: Four Children Suffocated to Death After Being Trapped in Car

| Updated: November 5, 2024 13:51

On the day people in Gujarat were celebrating their ‘New Year’ occasion, a tragic incident came to light from Amreli district where four small children aged between three and seven died due to suffocation after being trapped in a locked car.

The incident occurred in Randhiya village of Amreli taluka on November 2. The four victims, all siblings and children of tribal migrant workers from Madhya Pradesh, had entered an i20 car while playing after their parents left to work. The parents are farm labourers.

The car, owned by the field’s owner where the children’s parents are employed, was parked in its usual spot.

Giving the specifics of the case, Amreli SP Himkar Singh told a section of media, “The children, two boys aged two years and three years, and two girls aged four years and seven years, entered the vehicle while playing but could not open the vehicle, leading to their death by suffocation.”

Notably, the parents searched for their children after leaving the field and eventually found them unconscious in the car. The children were already dead when they attempted to revive them.

SP Himkar Singh stated that, following investigation, the police concluded this was a tragic accident with no foul play or harm intended towards the children. The Amreli Taluka police filed an Accidental Death Report regarding the incident.
