A 24-year-old woman was arrested by the Mumbai police on Sunday for allegedly sending a death threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The woman, identified as Fatima Khan, resides with her family in Ulhasnagar, a locality in Maharashtra’s Thane district, an official reported.
Earlier in the day, the Mumbai traffic police reported receiving a message containing a death threat against the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. The message, which was sent to the city’s traffic control room from an unidentified phone number, warned that if Adityanath did not step down from his role as Chief Minister, he would be killed in a manner akin to that of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique.
An official added that while Khan is well-educated, she is reported to be mentally unstable, a factor being considered in the ongoing investigation. Khan’s father works in the timber industry, according to police sources.
The Mumbai police responded swiftly, initiating a comprehensive investigation into the source and intent behind the message. With Adityanath expected to visit Maharashtra as part of the upcoming state assembly election campaign, authorities are taking heightened precautions to ensure his safety.
