Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the issue of cybercrime on Sunday, specifically the rise in “digital arrests,” emphasising that it affects all sectors of society. He urged the public to follow the principle of “stop, think, and take action” when encountering such scams.
During his 115th ‘Mann ki Baat’ broadcast, PM Modi stated that investigating agencies are coordinating with state authorities to tackle this problem but stressed that public awareness is crucial for self-protection against these crimes.
“Beware of ‘Digital Arrest’ fraud. No investigative agency will ever contact you by phone or video call for such an investigation,” he said.
He also shared a video illustrating how fraudsters impersonate government officials to exploit people’s fears and how they are armed with detailed information about their targets.
In addition to informing the police about such a crime, Modi urged people to call the national cyber helpline at 1930 or visit its website.
In reference to the crime that has been widely reported, he stated that they must record such conversations on video and also take screenshots.
He praised the growing influence that Indian artists have been having on the animation industry throughout his broadcast.
“India is seeing a surge in creative energy. ‘Made in India’ and ‘Made by India’ are shining brightly in the world of animation,” he remarked.
