At least 10 hotels, including several five-star establishments, in Gujarat’s Rajkot received bomb threats via email on Saturday, sparking concern among locals and visitors, officials confirmed. Among the hotels targeted were the Imperial Palace, Sayaji Hotel, Seasons Hotel and Grand Regency, prominent names in the region’s hospitality industry.
With the threat coinciding with the festive season, apprehension has surged, prompting Rajkot Police to launch an intensive investigation to trace the source of the threatening emails. Authorities have conducted thorough checks in each of the targeted hotels to ensure the safety of guests and staff.
The email, which was sent to the hotels, read: “I placed bombs in every location of your hotel. The bombs will go off in a few hours. Many innocent lives will be lost today. Hurry up and evacuate the hotel. EVACUATE NOW.”
This threat follows a recent wave of bomb scares across India, with multiple airlines—Air India, IndiGo, Vistara and others—receiving around 250 such warnings over the past 10 days. On Saturday alone, 27 flights operated by SpiceJet, IndiGo, Air India and Vistara received similar threats, leading to heightened security measures at various airports nationwide.
Among these, threats were issued to six Air India flights and seven flights each from SpiceJet, IndiGo, and Vistara. On Friday, 95 flights across IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, SpiceJet, Alliance Air and Akasa Air were also subjected to similar warnings.
On 24th October, airport authorities in Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, and Jharsuguda received bomb threats for various flights, which ultimately proved to be hoaxes. Officials conducted extensive checks at the airports, including isolating and inspecting certain planes mentioned in the threats.
In response to the increasing frequency of hoax bomb threats, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu recently announced that the government is considering actions to address the issue, including the possibility of placing individuals responsible for such threats on the no-fly list.
