Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to submit her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election on Wednesday. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, will accompany her.
Ahead of submitting her nomination on October 23, Priyanka Gandhi met with party leader Kharge on Monday to seek his blessings.
On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will also lead a roadshow starting from Kalpetta New Bus Stand at around 11 am. The nomination will be submitted to the district collector after the roadshow.
She is the United Democratic Front (Kerala) candidate for the Wayanad parliamentary by-election.
According to the media reports, Congress Chief Ministers and other well-known state and national officials are also expected to attend to offer their support. With the announcement last week by the Election Commission of India (ECI) of the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by-poll, the stage was set for Priyanka Gandhi to make her electoral debut from the Kerala constituency, perhaps bringing her into Parliament five years after she first entered active politics.
Priyanka Gandhi, 52, was named as Congress’ candidate for the Kerala seat shortly after the ECI announced the Wayanad by-poll.
Party workers in Wayanad displayed posters in the constituency with the words “Wayanadinte Priyankari (Wayanad’s beloved)” in response to the Congress nominating the AICC general secretary from the seat.
Congress announced in June that Rahul Gandhi will continue to represent the Rae Bareli parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh and will vacate the Wayanad seat in Kerala, where his sister Priyanka Gandhi will make her electoral debut.
If elected, it will be Priyanka Gandhi’s first time entering Parliament as an MP.
