The United States is investigating a leak of highly classified intelligence that discloses Israel’s potential plans for a retaliatory strike against Iran.
The validity of the papers has been verified by one of the sources. A US official called the disclosure “deeply concerning”.
The documents, which are dated October 15 and 16, were uploaded to Telegram by an account called “Middle East Spectator” and started making the rounds online on Friday.
Only the US and its “Five Eyes” intelligence-sharing partners—Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom—are supposed to have access to these top-secret documents.
These documents detail what seems to be Israel’s military preparations for Iran. A document obtained from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency describes Israel’s movement of weapons during these preparatory measures.
Another document, reportedly from the National Security Agency, details air-to-surface missile drills conducted by the Israeli Air Force, which are considered to be preparation for the attack.
According to a US official, the investigation’s main goal is to determine who accessed the classified Pentagon data.
An inquiry by the FBI, the Pentagon, and US intelligence agencies is instantly launched in the event of such a leak. On the matter, the FBI has refrained from commenting.
