A 20-year-old worker died after he fell from a lift with an open door at Vishal Fabrics Ltd, a company owned by Chiripal Group in Danilimda, Ahmedabad, on Friday. The worker named Ashutosh Yadav was crushed under a cloth roll and roller that fell on him following the fall.
The police have registered a case of accidental death and have begun an investigation, taking statements from other workers at the site.
Ashutosh Yadav, originally from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was employed as a helper at Vishal Fabrics. The incident took place around 10 AM on Friday when Ashutosh was transporting a cloth roll on a wheeled cart. As he approached the lift, the door was unexpectedly open and he fell into the lower part of the lift shaft. The cloth roll and roller he had been pushing also fell, fatally crushing him.
Following the accident, a crowd of workers and local residents gathered at the factory and the police were forced to intervene to disperse the gathering.
Authorities have indicated that if negligence on the part of the company’s management is discovered during the investigation, legal action will be taken against them.
It is worth noting that this is not the first such incident involving a Chiripal Group company. Four workers previously died in a gas leak at Vishal Chemical, another Chiripal Group facility located in Dholka.
