The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for the upcoming general elections in the states of Maharashtra and Jharkhand on Oct 15. In addition, the ECI revealed the dates for by-elections in 48 assembly seats and 2 parliamentary constituencies across 15 states. Among these is the Vav assembly constituency in Gujarat.
According to the schedule, voters in Vav will head to the polls on 13th November, with the results being declared on 23rd November, in line with the results of all other elections.
The Vav assembly seat became vacant in June 2024 following the victory of former Congress MLA Geniben Thakor, who contested and won the Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat in the general elections. After her win, she resigned from her MLA position, leaving the Vav seat open for the by-election.
