The Gujarat Government has announced a day of state mourning today, 10 October, in honour of Ratan Naval Tata, the renowned industrialist who died yesterday evening.
As a mark of respect for the departed business magnate, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the state on all buildings where it is regularly displayed. Additionally, all official programmes scheduled for today have been cancelled.
In a communiqué to senior officials including the Director General of Police, District Collectors, Superintendents of Police, Police Commissioners, and the Director of Information, the Chief Secretary stated: “Shri Ratan Naval Tata, veteran industrialist, passed away on Wednesday, 09-10-2024. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, state mourning will be observed for one day (i.e., on 10-10-2024), and the national flag will be at half-mast throughout the state on 10-10-2024.”
The message further emphasised that the national flag should be flown at half-mast on all buildings throughout Gujarat where it is normally flown and that no official programmes should take place today.
The Chief Secretary concluded by instructing the recipients to inform all concerned parties of these arrangements.
