Three-Tier Security for EVMs Ahead of Haryana Election Results

| Updated: October 7, 2024 17:32

Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal underlined the security measures put in place by the Election Commission on Monday, stating that a strong three-tier security cordon has been placed in order to secure Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

On Tuesday, the results of the Haryana elections will be declared.

The Deputy Commissioner added that the EVMs have been housed in four strong rooms at Kurukshetra University, which are under constant watch.

“As per the norms laid down by the Election Commission, a three-tier security cordon is in place for the EVMs. The Central Paramilitary Forces (CPF), Haryana Armed Police, local police, and the Duty Magistrate have all been appointed. There are four strong rooms inside Kurukshetra University. Only the candidates, their counting agents, and election agents are allowed inside the counting area. No mobile phones, pens, or paper are permitted… Adequate police forces have been deployed around the counting centre and the strong rooms,” he said.

With over 20,000 polling stations and an orderly conclusion on Saturday, the single-phase election for 90 Assembly seats in Haryana finished with a final voter participation of 65.65%.

Exit polls indicate a clean sweep for the Congress in Haryana, with some showing the party may win more than 50 of the 90 seats in the assembly.

The TV-Today C-Voter estimated that the Congress may obtain 50-58 seats in the state, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to win 20-28 seats. 10 to 16 seats may be secured by other parties.

In the 90-member assembly, 46 members are required to establish a government.
