A band of cow vigilantes (gau-rakshaks) reportedly barged into a state-run goat breeding centre in Gujarat and manhandled the staff there.
An animal husbandry officer at the goat breeding centre in Mota Jampura village of Banaskantha was among the injured in the attack.
The officer Dr Vaja Patel of Lelava village in Dhanera taluka, filed a complaint stating that around 20 people stormed into his office and threatened him and the staff, alleging that they have been “slaughtering cows and selling their bones”. Patel claimed the accused used caste-based slurs against Shankar Parmar, an SC staffer.
As per the FIR, three men, Mansingh Chaudhary, Raju Panchal, and Babar Panchal, assaulted Patel and the staff. The three are yet to be arrested.
The FIR says Patel, along with staffers Shailesh Chaudhary and Badaji Thakor, were dragged from their office and confined in a mini-truck for four hours. Police charged the accused under various sections of BNS, including rioting.
Banaskantha police have registered a criminal case against around 20 self-styled ‘gaurakshaks’ for allegedly attacking officials of state government’s animal husbandry department following a complaint lodged by Patel.
In his FIR, Patel stated that the accused showed them a video while alleging that the officials were confining cows at the centre. Patel told them that the said location was a kilometre away from the goat-breeding centre. “However, they did not listen to anything and started abusing, slapping and beating the government officials,” he said in his FIR.
