Gujarat: RS MP Parimal Nathwani Suggests Naming Rajkot Airport After Former CM Keshubhai Patel

| Updated: September 27, 2024 20:25

The naming of the newly constructed Hirasar Airport in Rajkot has again taken centre stage, with Rajya Sabha MP and Director of Corporate Affairs at Reliance Industries Limited Parimal Nathwani weighing in on the matter.

In a recent social media post, Nathwani proposed that the airport be named after former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, a prominent leader from Saurashtra.

Nathwani’s proposal highlights Keshubhai Patel’s significant contributions to Gujarat, emphasising that naming the airport after him ‘would honour his legacy and be a source of pride for the region.’

This sentiment is echoed by Keshubhai Patel’s son, Bharat Patel, who has also urged the government to consider his father’s name for the airport.

Keshubhai Patel, an Indian politician who was born on July 24, 1928, and died on October 29, 2020, served as Gujarat’s chief minister twice, from 1995 to 2001. He served as a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly six times. He joined the Janata Party in the 1970s, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1980, the RSS in the 1940s, and the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in the 1960s.
