Family Dispute Over Attire Leads to Violent Clash in Gandhinagar

| Updated: September 4, 2024 14:04

A family dispute over traditional attire resulted in a violent altercation in Dholakunwa, Gandhinagar, on Sunday, leaving five individuals including two women injured and three motorcycles damaged.

According to the FIR with the Infocity police, Arjun, 40, a casual labourer reprimanded his cousin’s wife, Piya, for wearing a Punjabi suit instead of a sari. This confrontation did not sit well with Piya, who informed her husband, Karan, about the incident.

Karan, accompanied by several family members, confronted Arjun at his residence, according to Arjun’s FIR filed with Infocity police. The situation quickly deteriorated, with Karan and his three companions allegedly abusing and attacking Arjun with sticks. Arjun’s family members, who attempted to intervene, were also assaulted, resulting in serious injuries.

In a counter-complaint, Karan, 25, allegedly accused Arjun and two others of physically assaulting him after he questioned Arjun’s criticism of his wife’s attire. Karan said that his wife told him on Sunday that Arjun scolded her just because she wore a Punjabi dress and told her to wear a sari only. He raised the issue with Arjun, who was his cousin, but he, along with two others, abused him and badly beat him.

Both parties have filed complaints with Infocity police, who have registered the cases and initiated an investigation.
