Unable to find jobs, 3.95 lakh people including 46,102 graduates and post graduates have applied for the job of sweepers in a state-run corporation Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN) established for providing contractual manpower.
With hardly any other employment available, hundreds of thousands of young men and women desperate for work are applying for the most unskilled menial jobs. The selected contractual sweepers, employed by government departments, boards, and corporations, would earn approximately Rs 15,000 per month.
The job responsibilities include cleaning, sweeping, and garbage removal from public spaces, roads, and buildings. Applicants are required to sign an undertaking confirming they understand the job description and agree to be posted only within their home district.
Around 39,990 graduates, over 6,112 postgraduates and 117,144 individuals with educational qualifications up to Class 12 applied for these positions.
The overwhelming number of graduates and postgraduates applying for sanitation worker roles reflects the severe unemployment problem in the state.
