The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday reported that Gujarat has been receiving extremely heavy downpours for the last few days and it believes this is expected to continue for the next five days.
According to the IMD’s most recent forecast, certain regions will be under red and orange alerts from August 24 to 26, with the orange alert lasting until August 28.
A red alert has been issued for Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Bhavnagar for the next 24 hours. These districts are expected to experience isolated exceptionally heavy rainfall as well as heavy to very heavy rain in a few locations.
The following areas are under an orange alert during the same period: Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Dang, Tapi, Surendranagar, Amreli and Botad.
Meanwhile, Rajkot, Junagadh, Morbi, Gir Somnath and Diu have been kept under a yellow alert for heavy rain.
The IMD issued a red alert for Bharuch, Surat, Amreli and Bhavnagar on August 25th, predicting isolated extremely severe downpours combined with heavy to very heavy rain in a few locations.
Gandhinagar, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Morbi, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu are all under an orange alert.
Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka and Kutch are under a yellow alert for heavy rain.
A red warning has been issued for Vadodara, Bharuch, Amreli and Bhavnagar on August 26. Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Morbi, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu are all under an orange alert.
Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Dang, Tapi, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka and Kutch are under a yellow alert.
For Surendranagar, Morbi, Patan, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Botad and Kutch, an orange alert was issued on August 27.
However, a yellow warning for heavy rain is anticipated in a few isolated areas in the districts of the Gujarat region, which include the districts of Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli; additionally, in the Saurashtra districts of Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath and Diu.
There is an orange alert in effect for Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka and Kutch. On August 28, there is a chance of heavy to very heavy rain in isolated areas.
Ahmedabad, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, as well as the Saurashtra districts of Surendranagar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Gir Somnath, Botad and Diu, are under a yellow alert for heavy rain.
