After the arrest of the former Chief Fire Officer of Rajkot municipal corporation, Ilesh Kher in a case of disproportionate assets and his deputy BJ Theba in connection with the case of disproportionate assets, the Gujarat government has now arrested Anil Becharbhai Maru for not taking action in the TRP game zone fire.
Since the power of the NOC is only with the CFO, corruption started coming from Kutch.
It has come to light that municipal commissioner DP Desai had received complaints against Maru, and the commissioner had urged this officer not to do anything wrong and yet Maru did not improve and today Maru has been caught red-handed. Even after a tragedy like the fire in the BJP-ruled municipal corporation, corruption has not stopped despite the arrest of three corrupt, careless officers of the fire brigade and TP department.
When Anil Maru has signed more than 90 files in the Municipal Corporation, how many crores of rupees were deducted and who was involved in it is also a matter of investigation.
After the arrest of former CFO Ilesh Kher for not taking action against the TRP game zone, it was demanded the government immediately puts an efficient officer in the place where it was vacant, under which Anil Maru, the accused, who was on duty in Kutch at that time, was appointed by the state government. Now that he is arrested in a bribery case, action, including suspension, will also be taken against him.
Two years ago, Anil Maru’s sarpanch sister-in-law and brother were caught in a bribery case.
Anil Maru’s office and flats in the Cloud-9 building were inspected as per rules by the ACB after he was picked up by the ACB while accepting bribe.
Maru’s sister-in-law Kankuben was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in August 2021 when she was the sarpanch of Kukma village in Bhuj, ACB sources said. While three persons, including Kankuben’s husband Amrutbhai Becharbhai, were caught taking bribe by the ACB from Hamirsar Lake in Bhuj. They were caught with Rs 4 lakh. Anil Maru’s brother and sister-in-law were arrested in two separate cases of bribery of Rs 5 lakh, ACB sources said.
Coincidently, DySP Gohil, the same officer who nabbed his brother and sister-in-law, picked up Maru. In this way, three members of the same family have fallen into the clutches of the ACB.
The ACB officer who caught Maru’s brother, and sister-in-law set up a trap against Maru as well.
Anil Maru, who has been a fire officer in Bhuj since 2010, was surprised by his posting in Rajkot.
After the Rajkot fire incident, many questions have been raised against this fire officer of Bhuj.
The ACB’s probe has been extended to Bhuj and Kutch. Anil is originally from Kukma village. Searches were conducted at his house in Kukma village and possible places in Bhuj but nothing objectionable was found. Anil Maru joined duty at Bhuj in 2010 as a fire officer and became a divisional fire officer in 2015.
