Two interesting news stories expose the Vibrant Gujarat Model. In one, a young man was caught faking IDs of government officials to order food from the restaurants, and in another, an attempt was made to defraud the BJP workers by people posing as PMO officials, offering them a multi-crore bungalow at a throw-away price in “appreciation” of their party work.
There have been numerous cases in the recent past where fraudsters have impersonated PMO officials. It should be a matter of investigation why so many people chose the modus operandi of using PMO’s name for offering service in shady deals.
In a curious case, a man named Rupesh Doshi, living in Bopal, Ahmedabad, started ordering free food from nearby restaurants, faking his ID. He had suffered losses in his stock market dealings. Later, he became emboldened enough to fake the IDs of the officers of the CBI, ED, and RAW. He is now arrested.
Now, police have busted a gang operating in Gujarat and targeting BJP workers by posing as PMO officials with the intent to defraud.
The police started an investigation using technical surveillance when the BJP worker informed the police about receiving calls from someone identifying as a PMO official. The BJP worker in Ahmedabad received a call from an unknown number informing him that PM Narendra Modi is very pleased with the work he has been doing. The caller identified himself as someone working at PMO.
The caller told the BJP worker that in appreciation of his work, he will be allotted a bungalow worth Rs. 4 crore in the farmhouse project coming up on the Jaipur Delhi Highway. The caller also sent photographs of the plan and design of the bungalow. He said the project is headed by Ex-CM of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje.
Police held six persons from Palwal in Haryana, namely Irshad Mev, Bharatsinh Jatav, Sabir Mev, Rakib Mev, Irshad Khan and Mohamad Mev. The gang used to defraud people by promising online work for Natraj Pencil. They would extract Rs. 620 by way of registration and promise Rs. 15000 per month. Since the money they received was in small amounts, the gang started using PMO’s name for cheating people. It is revealed that several BJP workers have transferred amounts ranging from Rs. 10000 to Rs. 50000 to the accounts of the fraudsters.
In another incident, Gujarat police have busted a gang operating from a chai kitli in Bikaner, Rajasthan. They dealt in drugs and fake passports. They were in touch with a Chinese gang, found potential clients, and duped poor people who came to have tea by giving them a Rs. 8,000 commission to open bank accounts where illegal money was parked. The chai kitli owner made 20 lacs a month with a simple modus operandi, chai pe charcha.
