Atmanirbhar Gujarat: MD Drugs Making Unit Found In Surat District

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) nabbed three persons for manufacturing mephedrone drugs (MD) from the Surat district in South Gujarat. Acting on a tip-off, the ATS raided shed no 12 and 13 in the Darshan Industrial Estate in the Kareli village of Palsana taluk in Surat district. The hired tin shed was used by the arrested mastermind Sunil Narayan Yadav, a resident of Vapi, and Vijay Gajera, a resident of Surat, for manufacturing the drug. Police seized a huge quantity of mephedrone drugs (MD) worth Rs 51 crore from the premises. Another accomplice Haresh Korat, a resident of Junagadh, is detained with the help o Junagadh SOG. It is revealed that the accused have already sold four kilos of drugs worth Rs.20 crores to Mumbai-based drug lord Salim Sayyad.

Vijay Gajera, an electrical engineer learnt the process of manufacturing the drug from the videos and material found on the internet. Sunil Yadav managed the raw material used to manufacture the drug. Haresh Korat assisted both the main accused. The accused rented the shed for a monthly rent of Rs 20,000 for one month. The factory was in operation at the place for the last one month.

Gujarat ATS team of 2 Inspectors with 3 Sub Inspectors each raided and found 4 kg of the drug in hard form and 31.409 kg in liquid form from the factory. The police carried out the operation after more than 15 days of reiki. The locals said that the raided unit worked only from 11 in the evening till 4 in the early morning. They also reported that mosquitos had disappeared mysteriously in the proximity of the area. The accused had told the locals that they were manufacturing the mixing powder used for the preservation of grains.

The police said that further investigation is on. Police are trying to identify any additional links and networks associated with the busted unit. The unit has been sealed and the owner who rented will also be questioned. The ATS has stated that the operation is a big success in their ongoing efforts to combat drug production and distribution in the state.
