The Gujarat High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing in the bail plea of five Congress workers arrested in the stone-pelting incident that took place at the party office in Ahmedabad. The hearing will now take place on Friday.
On July 2nd, Bharatiya Yuva Janata Morcha (BJYM) workers had gathered at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee office in the Paldi area and clashed with Congress workers in opposition to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks.
Earlier, the Sessions Court had said that Congress workers were attempting to vandalise property. “Taking the law into their own hands is not permissible,” it said.
Workers from the Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal were also present during the unrest. Both factions said that their members suffered injuries during the incident.
Both parties registered complaints at the Ellis Bridge Police Station. The Congress filed a complaint against 15 BJP workers, and the BJP filed a complaint against 26 Congress workers.
Congress workers Harsh Parmar (23), Vimalbhai Pansara (50), Manish Thakor (47), Sanjay Barot (57), and Mukeshbhai Dataniya (68) were taken into custody on the basis of these complaints. Not a single BJP worker has been arrested so far.
Rahul’s Response to the Incident
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the BJP on the matter, saying that it proved his point about the Sangh Parivar and the saffron party.
“The cowardly and violent attack on the Gujarat Congress office further strengthens my point about the BJP and the Sangh Parivar. The people of the BJP who spread violence and hatred do not understand the basic principles of Hinduism,” he held.
He further said that the people of Gujarat “can clearly see through their lies and will teach the BJP government a decisive lesson.”
“I am saying it again – INDIA is going to win in Gujarat!,” he wrote on X.
He arrived in Ahmedabad to oppose the vandalism at the party office and he criticised the BJP once again by saying that his party is going to defeat them in Gujarat.
“The way they broke our office, we are going to break their government… But there are shortcomings in the Gujarat Congress… There are two types of horses: one for racing and one for weddings. ‘Congress race ke ghode ko shadi mein, aur shadi ke ghode ko race mein laga deti hai’… In the last elections, we did not contest against the BJP properly. In 2017, we worked hard for 3 months, and the results were good. Now that we have 3 years, we will leave the finishing line behind. You are going to form the government in Gujarat after 30 years… Party leadership, including me and my sister, all are going to stand with you,” he remarked.
