A significant step toward promoting education and skill development among inmates, a learning zone (mini school) was unveiled at Lajpore Jail in Surat. The project received support from L&T and A.M. Naik Heavy Engineering Complex Hazira. Gujarat’s Minister of State for Home Affairs, Harsh Sanghavi, presided over the inauguration.
Approximately 130 inmates stand to benefit from this newly established learning zone. The smart classroom, situated within the jail premises, aims to assist prisoners pursuing studies through open universities or preparing for board exams.
Sanghavi praised the initiative, stating, “Encouraging self-development and skill enhancement among prisoners is commendable and promising.”
Previously, Lajpore Jail offered educational facilities, but this latest endeavour represents the establishment of a smart school, made possible with private company assistance. Notably, inmates at the jail are also engaged in diamond cutting, further contributing to their growth and rehabilitation.
