Centre Extends Ban On SFJ Citing ‘Anti-India Activities’

| Updated: July 9, 2024 20:54

The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday extended the ban imposed on the pro-Khalistan group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) for five years for its anti-India activities.

The Home Ministry said that the SFJ was designated as a banned organisation five years ago under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act because of its anti-national actions that jeopardise the nation’s integrity and internal security.

It stated that the SFJ continues to participate in subversive and anti-national acts in Punjab and other locations to undermine India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

According to the ministry, by engaging in actions and articulations meant to undermine India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the SFJ is supporting separatist groups fighting for this goal both inside and outside of India, as well as encouraging and assisting efforts to seize a part of Indian territory from the Union of India.

Considering the involvement of SFJ in different subversive activities, the Home Ministry extended the ban imposed under the UAPA for five years, with effect from July 10, the notification said.
