The district food department launched an investigation at D-Mart after a customer discovered fungus in a 1 kg tub of Milky Mist curd purchased from the store in Himmatnagar. Kartik Pujara, a resident of Swatinagar Society, raised the alarm when he opened the curd and found it contaminated.
Kartik’s complaint highlighted not only the presence of fungus but also the alleged indifference of D-Mart employees. According to Kartik, the store manager’s response indicated that internal product inspections were not conducted before the sale.
In a statement to the media, Kartik expressed concern about the potential health risks: “We were sold stale curd and my daughter was about to consume the fungus-laden product. Who would have been responsible if something had happened due to food contamination?”
Prompted by Kartik’s written complaint, the food inspector swung into action. Samples of other Milky Mist products, including ghee, yogurt, butter and cheese, were collected during the inspection. The department also examined additional batches of yogurt related to Kartik’s complaint.
