The Central Bureau of Investigation has apprehended a person in relation to suspected “manipulation” in the NEET-UG examination in Latur, Maharashtra on Monday, taking the total number of arrests by the agency to nine.
In relation to the Latur case, which the Maharashtra police had previously looked into, the CBI reportedly arrested an individual identified as Nanjunethappa G.
Two Latur-based government school teachers are accused of demanding more than Rs 5 lakh from NEET-UG students in order to guarantee their success in the examination.
According to the CBI, they have arrested six people in the Bihar NEET-UG paper leak case, one each in relation to alleged manipulation in Latur and Godhra, and one from Dehradun in relation to a broader conspiracy.
After a significant controversy over alleged irregularities in the examination conducted on May 5, the Centre asked the agency to look into the matter.
The CBI has registered six FIRs in the case.
The Bihar FIR concerns paper leakage, while the others from Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra deal with candidate impersonation and cheating.
