Nearly a month into the southwest monsoon season in Gujarat, several districts are facing a rainfall deficit. According to data from the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), the state’s average rainfall stands at 23 per cent. However, some regions have received significantly less precipitation.
Regional Disparities:
- Saurashtra Region: The Saurashtra region has fared relatively better, with the highest average rainfall of 30 per cent. Devbhoomi Dwarka leads the way with 50.85 per cent rainfall, followed closely by Junagadh at 46.18 per cent.
- Lowest Rainfall: Anand district recorded the lowest rainfall at 11.08 per cent. Other districts receiving less than 15 per cent include Dahod (11.20 per cent), Aravalli (11.46 per cent), Patan (12.5 per cent), Mahisagar (13.96 per cent), Surendranagar (14.5 per cent) and Sabarkantha (14.99 per cent).
Taluka Highlights:
- Khambhalia: In Devbhoomi Dwarka, Khambhalia taluka boasts an impressive 78.18 per cent average rainfall.
- Junagadh District: Six talukas in Junagadh district have received over 50 per cent average rainfall, including Vanthali (57.75 per cent), Visavadar (55.65 per cent) and Junagadh city (52.62 per cent).
- Challenging Conditions: Some talukas have struggled to cross the single-digit mark. Bhabhar in Banaskantha district has received only 0.76 per cent, while Amirgadh stands at 7.92 per cent.
Week Ahead:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for July 9 in specific districts, including Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Surat, Navsari and Valsad.
