Smart City Cameras and GPS Deployed for Ahmedabad’s Rath Yatra Security

| Updated: July 7, 2024 16:48

The annual Jagannath Rath Yatra, a vibrant festival celebrated across different regions of the country, commenced on July 7, 2024. Thousands of devotees throng the streets to witness Lord Jagannath’s chariot being carried on their shoulders. As the city gears up for this grand congregation, Ahmedabad police have implemented robust security arrangements.

Smart City Cameras and GPS for Safety

In a proactive move, the Ahmedabad police have installed smart city cameras and GPS systems in their vehicles to ensure safety during the entire Yatra. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Komal Vyas explained, “Our existing Ahmedabad Smart City cameras have been strategically positioned and zoomed to focus on the Rath Yatra procession.”

Vyas further elaborated, “When large crowds gather and mobile networks become congested, our VHF sets come into play, allowing seamless communication among police personnel. Additionally, we’ve deployed tethered helium balloons equipped with cameras to capture a bird’s-eye view of the procession.”

Multiple Rath Yatras and Recruitment Exams

Beyond the main Rath Yatra, Ahmedabad is hosting seven more Rath Yatras in different parts of the city. To manage this extensive event, the police force has also overseen the smooth conduct of four distinct recruitment exams across the state. A total of 24,000 personnel have been recruited to ensure the Rath Yatra proceeds without any hitches.

Fortunate Boost for Vehicle Dealers

Interestingly, the Rath Yatra has brought good fortune to vehicle dealers. They anticipate a substantial 21% increase in sales during this festive period. Over 6,700 vehicles are slated for delivery, including 5,500 two-wheelers and 1,200 four-wheelers—an impressive surge compared to last year. The recent boost in sales has helped alleviate the pandemic-induced slowdown, particularly in the two-wheeler segment. Coupled with enticing offers during the Rath Yatra Muhurt, buyers are expected to flock to showrooms, resulting in a significant rise in sales.
