‘We Will Defeat BJP In Gujarat, Just Like Ayodhya’: Rahul Roars After Attack On Party Office

| Updated: July 6, 2024 15:28

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday claimed that collectively they will defeat “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders in Gujarat just as they did in Ayodhya.”

Addressing the party workers at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Office, he said, “Together, we are going to defeat them in Gujarat. We will defeat Narendra Modi and the BJP in Gujarat just like we defeated them in Ayodhya.”

He said that the people of Ayodhya were upset because they were not invited to the Pran Pratistha occasion and that ‘they had lost their land when the airport was constructed’.

“The farmers of Ayodhya lost their land when the airport was built. The people of Ayodhya were upset that no one from Ayodhya was invited to the inauguration of the Ram Temple. The movement that was started by Advani Ji, whose centre was Ayodhya, the INDIA Alliance has defeated that movement in Ayodhya,” Gandhi said.

Gandhi outlined the causes of the BJP’s defeat in the general election in the Ayodhya constituency. He said, “To clean up the area in Ayodhya to construct the Ram Temple, a lot of land was taken from the people, and till date, the Narendra Modi government has not compensated them. Secondly, an international airport was built in Ayodhya on the land of farmers, and even they were not compensated properly. Thirdly, not a single person from Ayodhya was present at the Ram Temple inauguration, which enraged the people. These were the reasons why the NDA lost in Ayodhya and the INDIA Alliance won. The BJP has failed the movement started by LK Advani ji around Ayodhya.”

The Congress MP recalled the Ram temple’s inauguration in Ayodhya and stated that while Adani and Ambani were present, no poor person was observed.

Rahul’s reaction to vandalism at Congress office

Rahul Gandhi said that the Gujarat party members were attacked by the BJP and that their office was vandalised.

“The way they broke our office, we are going to break their government… But there are shortcomings in the Gujarat Congress… There are two types of horses: one for racing and one for weddings. ‘Congress race ke ghode ko shadi mein, aur shadi ke ghode ko race mein laga deti hai’… In the last elections, we did not contest against the BJP properly. In 2017, we worked hard for 3 months, and the results were good. Now that we have 3 years, we will leave the finishing line behind. You are going to form the government in Gujarat after 30 years… Party leadership, including me and my sister, all are going to stand with you,” he said.

Rahul to meet families of tragedies’ victims

Gandhi is scheduled to speak with families affected by the recent tragedies in the state. A party leader stated that Gandhi would offer his condolences to the families of victims of the Rajkot game zone fire, the Vadodara boat capsize, and the Morbi bridge collapse.

Gandhi will visit the families of five Congress workers who were detained after a violent altercation with BJP workers outside the GPCC office, commonly known as Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, in addition to the families of the injured workers.

The clash occurred on Tuesday afternoon as a result of protests over Gandhi’s alleged “anti-Hindu” statements by the BJP and its associated organisations. Three police officers were among the seven people injured in the stone-pelting incident.

In response to the incident on July 3, Ellisbridge police filed two different FIRs. The first FIR was filed against around 450 people from both parties, while the second one targeted just Congress workers and was based on a complaint that the Ahmedabad-based BJP youth wing had lodged. As a result, five Congress workers were arrested and are currently under judicial custody.
