A canopy at the passenger pickup and drop area outside the departure terminal of Hirasar-based Rajkot airport collapsed amid heavy rains. The airport, operated by the Airport Authority of India (AAI), has been using a temporary terminal building since its inauguration last year. The permanent terminal is expected to be completed by August this year.
This incident has once again brought to light concerns about structural safety, especially when aesthetic considerations might overshadow safety measures.
Just yesterday, a cab driver tragically lost his life at Delhi airport following the collapse of an overhead structure in the drop area.
A similar incident was also reported at Jabalpur airport.
