Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was released from Birsa Munda Jail on Friday after the high court granted bail to him in a money laundering case connected to a land scam.
Many Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) supporters cheered and held up posters in support of Soren as he left the jail.
“Hemant Soren was released from the jail after completion of legal formalities,” the official said.
Kalpana Soren, a JMM politician and Soren’s wife, expressed gratitude to the public and judiciary for their support.
After being released from jail, Soren was seen waving to people and seeking blessings from his father, JMM supremo Shibu Soren.
Earlier in the day, the former chief minister of Jharkhand was granted bail by a single bench of Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay.
“…The petitioner is directed to be released on bail on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 50,000 with two sureties of the like amount each,” stated the order passed by Justice Mukhopadhyay.
The Enforcement Directorate had arrested Soren on January 31 in connection with its probe into the money laundering case.
