The Gujarat government has updated the list of beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi. The government has removed the names of 2,62,050 people from the list, terming them as ineligible.
It was found that those removed from the list were receiving the amount in contravention of the laid down norms. The rules bar the farmers who are filing their income returns. In a couple, only one of the spouses is eligible to receive the aid. The government also removed the names of the farmers who had died. The total number of beneficiaries is 47,54,429 farmers in PM Kisan Samman Nidhi’s 17th installment.
During three previous financial years, Rs. 10,149.44 crore has been credited to the accounts of the farmers. The scheme came into effect in 2018–19. The government credits Rs. 2000 in the accounts of beneficiary farmers every four months. The government credited Rs. 3380.67 in 2020–21, Rs. 3599.56 in 2021–22, and Rs. 3169.21 in 2022–23.
It is believed that the government will initiate the recovery procedure with the help of Gram Sevaks from those farmers who received the amount despite being ineligible in previous years.
